Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I use Engaging at Home?

A: This program enables you, the caregiver, to engage with your loved one in purpose-filled and meaningful ways. You can create a “break in the day,” a time that you can enjoy together. Begin each session by watching one of the videos in the video library. We encourage you to pause the video anytime to ask questions or tell family stories. Remote family members can participate and hear new stories that add to family history. Writing down these stories and pairing them with old family photos creates a valuable family history.

Q: What if my loved one wants to keep watching the same video repeatedly?

A: We hear this a lot - everyone has their favorite topic. Since all of the videos (classes) are age-appropriate, you can easily tie one class to another to expose your loved one to something new. For example, “Rosie the Riveter” is about women joining the workforce during WWII, but did you know she also has her own National Park?

Q: What does “keeping the story going” mean?

A: Each video, or class, has opportunities for you to have new or familiar experiences with your loved one. It helps connect the topic to their lives and use creative resources to enhance their self-concept and improve their quality of life. Everyone prefers to spend their time in a purposeful and meaningful way. That need doesn’t diminish with age or dementia.

Q: My father loves the videos but wants to tell the story himself. Is that OK to do?

A: Yes, that is the best part. Think about what you can learn from your father when he tells the story!

Q: My grandmother says she is not creative, are there ways to encourage her to do one of the creative workshops?

A: Yes, work on the project together. Involving other family members is another option. Let her know that she is creating a “Legacy Project” to give as a gift and remind her that Grandma Moses didn’t start painting until she was 78 years old!

Q: What is the benefit of the learning platform?

A: The benefit of the learning platform is that the materials can be accessed from any location using a personal electronic device such as a Smartphone, iPad, or tablet.

Q: Can I view the videos on my iPad, tablet, iPhone or smartphone?

A: Yes, of course you can. These online videos are fully responsive on all types of electronic devices. For optimal experience, you can use the mobile version of Google Chrome, if your device supports it.

Q: Are the support webinars recorded so I can watch them anytime?

A: Not yet, but that’s a great idea!

Q: Can I download documents from the learning site and use them on my personal computer?

A: Yes, once you create a membership, all materials you have purchased are available anytime to use online or download to your computer.

Q: How do I know if this is right for my loved one?

A: Every person living with dementia is different, but research tells us that all people love to learn, laugh, and create. We select age-appropriate topics, people, and events that happened during your loved one’s life to create meaning. Seeing images, hearing stories, and singing songs they are familiar with often bring past memories to the present.

Q: How do I change my password?

A: Changing the password can be done from your Profile. Select "Change Password", enter your new password, and click on the "save" button.

Q: Can I cancel a membership at any time?

A: Yes, cancelling your membership can be done from your Account. Select "Account" and cancel your membership. You can also re-activate your membership.

Q: Is Internet Access Required?

A: Internet access is required to view each video.
